tions, i.e. one cannot accept Je-
sus and be a member of the Jew-
ish faith.
The inconsistency can be
applied here as well. How can
one reasonably expect one
who accepts the authority of
Torah, written and oral, as eter-
nal and binding, to tolerate a Ju-
daism that rejects these core
values?
Without condoning the yom
toy violence, it is hard to accept
the sincerity of worshippers per-
forming rites that they well
know would be seen as abhor-
rent to the persons present.
I do not want my Yiddishkeit
defined by whom I am against,
but I cannot be called upon to
compromise it either.

Numbers Prove
To Be Inaccurate

I would like to correct Rabbi
Schwartz ("Leader of the Pack"
June 13). He refers to a paper he
wrote about the Danish Jews
and noted that 90 percent of the
Danish Jews died during the
Holocaust. This is inaccurate in-
formation.
At Yad Vashem, the number
of Danish Jews killed is listed as
88; at the Holocaust Memorial
Center in West Bloomfield, the
number is 77. Since exact num-
bers are really not available, the
point is fewer than 100 Jews per-
ished in Denmark.
There were approximately
8,000 Jews in Copenhagen in
January 1943, according to the
census of the Wansee Confer-
ence. Due to the courage of the
king of Denmark and the Dan-
ish people, who were truly right-
eous, most Jews of Denmark
survived.

Soviet MiGs
Fly Over Israel

Jerusalem (JTA) — MiG-29
fighter planes, considered the
primary challenge to Israel's air
force, were sighted in Israeli
skies.
Israel Television quoted Is-
raeli air force officials as saying
that the planes were brought in
from an unnamed country to test
Israel's weapons systems against
the plane's capabilities.
The MiG-29, built in the for-
mer
Union, is used by a

including Syria and Iraq.
