"It's a really good team. The
coach (ex-Pistons coach Herb
Brown) is really tough. They were
hard tryouts, the hardest I've ever
done. Harder than Ohio State."
Zack says Brown wants the
team to play "a pro-style game. He
likes to run. He said we'll press a
little. He runs a pro-style offense."
The squad will practice togeth-
er in New York for 10 days and
then travel to Israel. Zack and his
teammates will play tourists be-
fore playing basketball.
"'The first eight days we're over
there you don't even play any
sports. You just travel. All 600 peo-
ple, the whole U.S. delegation,
they take you everywhere in Is-
rael. You just travel all around
and just sight-see and meet peo-
ple. They said maybe once a day
you might be able to practice, but
probably not.
"After that the Games start and
it'll be basketball every day. But
our coach, he really wants every-
one to see everything and go to all
the events.
"I like going to watch other
events. When I was in Argenti-
na (for the Maccabiah Pan Am
Games) I went and watched the
field hockey team and swimming.
I have some friends playing other
sports who are going [to Israel].
So I'll go watch them."
Israel's professional teams be-
gin pre-season practice in August.
So it's possible Zack may return,
briefly, to the U.S. after the
Games. "It depends on what team
I decide to play for," he says.
"Some teams start later than oth-
ers. But I'm packing to stay over
there." ❑
