Plan Assembly

The 1997 Schusterman Hillel In-
ternational Leaders Assembly will
be held Aug. 19-24 at Camp
Moshava in Honesdale, Pa. The
assembly is an opportunity for
Jewish students to meet student
leaders from Hillels across the
country, develop leadership skills
and discuss issues facing Jewish
students on all campuses.
Students from any of the HMD
campuses are eligible to attend.
Scholarships are available; regis-
tration deadline is Aug. 1.

Jewish Vocational Service (JVS)
will host a parent informational
meeting on the Jewish Educa-
tional Loan Service (JELS) and
additional financial aid options for
college students. It will be held 7
p.m., Thursday, June 26, in the
JVS Library in Southfield.
JELS Coordinator Marvin
Berman will discuss how to apply
for an interest-free loan offered
through JELS. JELS is open to
metro Detroit area Jewish resi-
dents and is administered through
JVS, Hebrew Free Loan. Associa-
tion, and Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit.
Dr. Berman also will address
the availability of financial assis-
tance through state, federal, in-
stitutional and private sources.
Although the meeting will be di-
rected toward parents, students
are welcome to attend.

Cantor Max Shimansky from
Congregation Beth Achim will
perform 1 p.m. Thursday, June
26, at Jimmy Prentis Morris Jew-
ish Community Center. There is
a nominal fee for non-members.
Weekly erev Shabbat services
will take place on Fridays at 12:45
p.m. Cantor David Gutman and
Ida Kogan will alternate as facil-
itators with prayers and songs.
The Senior Lunch Bunch is a
kosher lunch program for adults
age 60-plus. There is a hot meal
served Monday through Friday,
except holidays, for a small con-
tribution. On Fridays there is a
Shabbat program that includes
blessings of the wine, candles and
