Face Cookies
Marlene Thav puts on a happy (cookie) face.
Ingredients:
2/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
I /2 tsp. vanilla
1 eg,g
4 tsp. milk

2 cups sifted flour
1-1 /2 tsp. baking powder
I /4 tsp. salt
food coloring
Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add egg, and beat un-
til light and fluffy. Stir in milk.
Sift together dry ingredients and blend into creamed mix-
ture. Add enough food coloring to make intense color, as some
fading will occur during baking.
You can divide the dough first to make a variety of colors.
Bake at 375 degees for 6-8 minutes. Time will vary greatly
due to cookie thickness.

submitted this recipe for parents and children to make together. She
assures us that it's a favorite cookie pleaser which children love to
make, talk about and, of course, eat.
"It's fun to take a hand-held mirror into the kitchen and have the child look at the color of his or
her hair and eyes," she says. "At school, we take the colored cookie dough for hair and put it
through a garlic press to make real-looking hair. All the family members can make a face cookie
that looks just like themselves.
