What's Wrong With this

The first challenge with this
book is simply figuring out ex-
actly where to open it. The
front looks just like the back,
and the writing both places is
backwards. There are holes in
the pages, and sometimes
things are upside down, or
maybe there's a figure that's
definitely not what it appears
to be.
Whatever the case, this is a
fun book certain to amuse
your 4- to 10-year-old. It's
bright, colorful and silly —
just the sort of thing your child
will want to hear again and
again.

This is a charming collection
of songs, old-fashioned and
comforting (indeed, the per-
formers guarantee "If you or
your baby want to drift off
right now, just play it and
away you go.")
The instrumentation con-
sists, for the most part, of cello
and piano; it's a lovely combi-
nation, especially on "Rachel's
Dream," which singer Candy
Forest wrote in honor of Silent
Spring author Rachel Carson.
In addition to the music,
you get a nice biography of all
the performers, including
childhood photos, and infor-
mation about all the songs.
(Incidentally, the title comes
from a biography of artist
Georgia O'Keeffe, whose fa-
ther told her, "Speeney,
Spawney, Go to the Moon"
whenever little Georgia need-
ed some soothing words.)
