Are Shabbat Honorees

Judge Benjamin and Annie
Friedman and Jack and Florence
Schon will be honored at their re-
spective synagogues on June 21
during Shabbat morning ser-
vices. They will be presented with
the Jewish Theological Semi-
nary's Second Century award for
outstanding leadership.
On June 23 the Friedmans
and Schons will be acknowledged
along with other synagogue hon-
orees at the annual Detroit JTS
Gala.

The Friedmans

Judge Friedman is a past vice
president and board member of
Congregation Beth Achim; Mrs.
Friedman has served in the sis-
terhood and was active in the
synagogue's adult education pro-
gramming. Judge Friedman is a
district judge in Oak Park. He is
a past president of the Oakland
County District Judges Associ-
ation as well as a past chairman
of the Legislature Committee of
the Michigan District Judges As-
sociation.
Mrs. Friedman has been both
a classroom instructor as well as
a principal with Temple Emanu-
El, various branches of the for-
mer United Hebrew Schools and

The Friedmans are board
members of Yad Ezra and the
Friends of the Israel Defense
Forces.
Jack and Florence Schon are
active members of Beth Abraham
Hillel Moses where Mr. Schon is
a past president and a life mem-
ber of the board. Mrs. Schon
serves as sisterhood president as
well as on the board.
Mr. Schon is a past president
of the Jewish Home for Aged and
is currently president of its foun-
dation and operating boards. In
addition, he is a past member of
the board of the Jewish Federa-
tion of Metropolitan Detroit and
is currently serving on a Federa-
tion planning committee. Mr.
Schon is a life member of Hadas-
sah as well as the Jewish Home
for Aged Auxiliary. Mr. Schon is
a practicing attorney with Mason,
Steinhardt, Jacobs and Perlman.
He is a past president of the
Southfield Bar Association and
was national chancellor of the Tau
Epsilon Rho Law Society.

The American Committee forte Weizmann Institute of Science, Michigan Region,
held a "Supper and Science" program at the home of Bernice Gershenson. Guest
speaker was Professor Adi Kimchi from the Weizmann Institute of Science in
Rehovot, Israel, who spoke about genetics and cancer. Shown are Dr. Claude Oster,
Michigan region chairman, Mrs. Gershenson and Professor Kimchi.
