EITERYOME, SAVES AT
ing well-prepared traditional
meals, not swimming in olive oil
and with the advantage of fresh
meat, will be a great attraction
and a positive addition to the lo-
cal restaurant scene.
The only word to describe the
dining area is opulent. The origi-
nal multi-colored traditional Mo-
roccan tiling on the walls and floor
haven't been touched; the carved
ceiling and arched windows
and doors, the filigreed plaster
are the original, all the work of
master craftsmen.
"I feel that my dream is about
to come true. Jews are returning
to Marrakesh and tourism is im-
proving." In 1967, he explains, so
many Jews left "but that's all
changed."
Anxious to show me the entire
enterprise", we head down a
curved staircase where he proud-
ly shows off his gleaming, stain-
less steel kitchen, also a cool room
for meats and vegetables; anoth-
er room has multiple dish cabi-
nets and the beautiful outdoor
terrace which is almost finished.
Upstairs, the bedrooms have been
turned into offices and three pri-
vate party rooms.
"It's been a year of hard work
but I know this is what the city
needs. I'm really excited. I know
my dream has come true."
I wish David a mazel tov, take
my last sip of the cooling mint tea
and a last lingering look at what
has the promise to become a
meeting place for Jews. ❑
