She chaired the Adult Ed- ucation Committee during its "Shabbat Shaboom!" program and has been an active member of the sisterhood, the Synagogue Programming Committee, and the Cantor's Concert Commit- tee. She has been a longtime member of the synagogue board, serving most recently as record- ing secretary. Ms. Friedman is a docent at the Holocaust Memorial Center and a member of the auxiliary of Oakland General Hospital. Synagogues Cite Schechters, Bergs Richard and Elissa Berg from Beth Shalom and Robert and Bluma Schechter from Shaarey Zedek will be honored at their re- spective synagogues on June 14 during Shabbat morning services. They will be presented with the Jewish Theological Seminary's Second Century award for out- standing leadership. On June 23 the Bergs and Schechters will be acknowl- edged along with other syna- gogue honorees at the annual Detroit JTS Gala. This year's guest speaker will be Rabbi David Wolpe. Mr. Berg is a past president of Beth Shalom, after having served on the board for many years.. Together, the Bergs chaired the Cultural Commit- tee, and JEFF Committee.
