The Kronos Quartet, since its
founding in 1973, has combined
an extensive repertoire ranging
from Shostakovich and Ives, to As
tor Piazolla, to John Cage and
Howlin' Wolf in addition to co
missioning new works from to
day's most innovative composers
from around the world. The quar-
tet's newest release, feattuing clar
inetist David Krakauer, is a work
composed by Argentine Osvaldo
Golijov, who lived for a time in
Jerusalem Titled The Dreams and
Prayers of Isact.c the Blind, a Kab-
balist rabbi of Provence about 800
years ago, the work, says Golijov,
"is a kind of epic, a history ofJu
daism. It has Abraham, exile and
redemption." The CD is currently
in release.
