AJC Hosts
Annual Meeting
The Detroit Chapter of the
American Jewish Committee
will host its 52nd annual meet-
ing at noon Thursday, June 5, at
the Radisson Hotel, Southfield.
Nominated for this year's ex-
ecutive committee are the fol-
lowing AJC members: president,
Frederick J. Frank; vice presi-
dents, Carol Dunitz, Jonathan
E. Levin, Judith Owens Stern;
and treasurer, Martin S. May-
er.
Andrew Doctoroff, Kenneth
C. Gold, Norman Lewis, George
Mann, Henry Politzer and Alan
Schlang have been nominated
to serve for three years and Nan-
ci Rands will be asked to serve
for a special one-year term on
0.6 the Detroit Chapter Board. Bri-
an J. Kott, current president,
will become an ex-officio of the
board.
This year's program, follow-
ing the chapter elections, will fo-
cus on the controversy
surrounding Switzerland, Swiss
banks and World War II.

Adult Classes
Kolel Moshe, Congregation B'nai
Moshe's center for adult Jewish
learning, will offer a variety of
adult Hebrew classes this sum-
mer, all of which will meet in the
synagogue's education building,
Om 6800 Drake Road, West Bloom-
field.
The offerings are as follows:
Education Director Rita Abram-
son will launch a new Total Be-
ginner Hebrew Reading class
starting the week of June 16-20.
This will be a bring your own
brown bag lunch and learn, on a
weekday to be announced. There
will be eight one-hour sessions.
Tuition is $30 for members of
B'nai Moshe; $40 for others.
Ahuva Newman will teach a
new eight-part Total Beginner
Hebrew Reading class from 7:30
to 9 p.m. on Wednesday nights
beginning June 18. Tuition is $40
for members of Congregation
B'nai Moshe; $56 for others. Ms.
Newman also will continue to
teach Beyond Beginner Hebrew,
from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday
nights. Tuition for eight sessions
is $40 for members of B'nai
Moshe; $56 for others.
Finally, adult learners with
substantial Hebrew study expe-
rience are invited to join an In-
termediate-Advanced Hebrew
Reading Seminar taught by
Nathan Roth, which meets from
Op 9:30 to 11 a.m. For information,

Dr. Diem
Dr. Mark Diem, medical direc-
tor for the First Care Medical
Centers in Michigan, will be
honored by the Detroit Friends
of Alyn Hospital at the first an-
nual patron event 7:30 p.m.
Monday, June 16, at the home
of Michael and Barbara
Horowitz. Alyn Hospital is Is-
rael's only orthopedic hospital
and rehabilitation center for
physically handicapped chil-
dren.
This year's project will be to
raise money for closed head in-
jury patients. Donations help
bridge the gap for children in
their recovery.

Consumer Rights
The Birmingham Temple will
present Cathy Hurwit 11 a.m.
Sunday, June 1. Ms. Hurwit
serves as deputy director of Cit-
izen Action, a national consumer
and environmental watchdog or-
ganization with offices in Wash-
ington, D.C., and Lansing.
She will speak on the book she
co-authored, The Managed Care
Consumer's Bill of Rights.

Aids JARC
The Shirt Box, a men's furnish-
ings and accessories store, will
host a benefit for JARC 9:30
a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday, June 5.
Ten percent of sales on that day
will benefit the Irene Elkus Good
Times Fund to support happy
times and fun events for people
served by JARC.
