REVA BERIVIAN, a third-grad-
er from Meadow Lake Elemen-
tary of the Walled Lake School
District, won first place in the Na-
tional PTA-sponsored Reflections
competition in the photography
division for the third-fifth grade.
Reva was the first student from
the state of Michigan to win first
place in the photography division
and one of only two students from
Michigan to ever win first place
in any division
at thenational
level. Her pho-
tograph will

Golden Oldie award from the Ro-
tary Club of Detroit. She is gold-
en crusader, aggressively
defending any worthy cause in-
volving seniors. She serves on the
board of her sisterhood at Beth
Shalom Synagogue; she is a chair
of the Advisory Council-Area on
Aging; she is a steering commit-
tee member for the annual Michi-
gan Senior Power Day; she is on
the Senior Advisory Council for
the Oakland County Human Ser-
vices on aging. A volunteer for the
Fleischman Residence/Jewish
Home for the Aged in West
Bloomfield, Ms. Mickel works in
its library.

has won the
percussion posi-
tion with "The
President's
Own" United
States Marine Band. His prima-
ry duties will be to provide mu-
sic for the president in the White
House. "The President's Own"
Marine Band includes a wind en-
semble, chamber orchestra and a
jazz combo. Mr. Wolin is percus-
sionist with the Rhode Island Phil-
harmonic.

ADAM MATTHEW KAY of

West Bloomfield received an
Outstanding Achievement
Award for the 1997 National An-
thology of Poetry Contest. Adam
is a sixth-grader at Orchard
Lake Middle School. His poem
"Red" will be published in Au-
gust 1997.

DR. LEONARD KAPLAN of
Wayne State University was hon-
ored as Teacher Educator of the
Year, by the Michigan State
Board of Education and Michi-
gan Department of Education.
Dr. Kaplan also received the Dis-
tinguished National Educator
Award for 1997 presented by the
Association of Teacher Educators
as their annual meeting in Wash-
ington, D.C.

Wayne State University, has
been honored with the A.E. Ben-
nett Research Award by the So-
ciety of Biological Psychiatry.
This award is an acknowledg-
ment of exemplary contributions
to the field of biological psychi-
atry and is based, in part, on the
society's belief that the recipient
will continue to become a leader
in the area. Dr. Rosenberg's re-
search paper is titled "A Neu-
rodevelopmental Model of
Obsessive-Compulsive Disor-
der."
