dience adding personal anecdotes
and questions.
WDIV-TV reporter Lila Orbach
moderated the event. Although
she is getting married in about
two weeks, she said, "People think
I'm gay because I had lunch with
Rosie O'Donnell when I was work-
ing for Fox in Boston." A photo of
the two subsequently appeared in
Out magazine, claiming that Ms.
Orbach "came out."
"I would be happy to come out,

but not with Rosie O'Donnell.," she
said. "She's not Jewish."
`There is no instruction manu-
al for life — gay or straight," she
said.
One skit explained the impor-
tance of drafting legal documents
to "protect" a same-sex relation-
ship, especially regarding death,
wills and burial.
Another skit touched on the
stress gay and lesbian teen-agers
experience, and the fear they har-
bor about telling their parents.

One student told about a "very lib-
eral teacher" and "underground

network of gay students" at West
Bloomfield High School who sup-
port students who think they
might be gay.
Michelle Passon and Rabbi
Paul Yedwab of Temple Israel act-
ed out a scenario where a parent
approached a rabbi after learning

that her daughter is a lesbian.
Rabbi Yedwab discussed the
passage in Leviticus prohibiting
same-sex coupling. However, he
said, the Reform movement's
stance is to affirm 'the right of peo-
ple to choose their own sexual ori-
entation." ❑
