SPERBER'S KOSHER CATERING Franklin finished a lesson with the Wabeek head pro, Tom For- tuna, she teed it up for an 18- hole round. "Tom Fortuna told me to work on my set-up and procedure before each shot," re- calls Dishell. "He said 'look down, rotate your head, look at the target, look back at the ball and then hit the ball.' I was playing in a tournament and on the par five 15th hole at Wabeek I had a good drive and fairway wood. It was about an 8-iron to the green. I wanted to get the ball close to the hole. I concen- trated on what I had just learned from Tom for my pre- shot routine, and swung at the ball. The ball hit the flag and dropped into the hole for my first eagle. Those are times you don't forget." For 15-year-old Jeff Nash of West Bloomfield, last year's en- tire golf season was memorable. "I've been playing for about seven years and this was the year I shot two 79s," says Nash. "The first one I shot on the sec- ond day of a three-day junior tournament and had the low score. I shot the second 79 when I qualified for the All State Tour- nament at regionals this past fall. That fall I also won the Ju- nior Championship at Tam-0- Shanter. It was a very good year." Four years ago Julie Ko- rotkin of Birmingham was playing in the Women's District Match Play Tournament at Franklin Hills; She made it to the finals and was paired against Mary Jane Anderson of Clarkston, one of the out- standing women amateurs in the area. "It was the seventh hole at Franklin Hills and my second shot went into the woods on the left," recalls Korotkin. "The flag was on the far right of the green very close to the edge. I had to go through the woods and over a bunker to get onto the green. To this day I have no idea how I got there but my shot ended up six feet from the hole. My oppo- nent was just off the green. She chipped on and three-putted for a bogey 5. I putted for the par and won the hole. In the end I won the tournament and the seventh hole was the miracle hole. ❑ ill 40 °Oa iy/ th& It it 4licAti ; ift &-- 45enci iy, ottik 66-masteifi 1 athaze antlfr sigir o,lizb- to- every aft;sit coeseP oe C om ,Ne vs/zest/wok a n d ow- eccAert frOaration4 arc fi-ansiated into- 15- t# Pe- rna/kW menus/ to- nzahuottr. occasion/ menioPalA PADI Certification First Person: $19900 • Second Person FREE Training Package Includes: Manual, Logbook, Divetable, all instructional fees for confined water & academics.
