here isn't much that makes Lindsay Spolan stop in her tracks

and drop her jaw.
But when she disembarked from Northwest Flight 85 at
Detroit Metropolitan Airport last Wednesday, she stopped
short of a group of cheering, arm-waving parents and relatives.
Stunned by the mass of balloons and banners, she found that she.
didn't want to walk into such a warm crowd.
"I couldn't take another step," she told her friends when they re-
united the next day at the Bagel Club Cafe in West Bloomfield. "I
realized that the trip was over."
The trip, part of the International March of the Living, was a two-
week excursion through Poland — its death camps, Jewish ceme-
teries, yeshivot and old neighborhoods — and then on to Israel. The
59 Detroit Jewish teens celebrated Yom Ha'atzma'ut and observed
Yom Hazikaron in the streets of Jerusalem.
The group reunited at Temple Israel on Monday night, where they
viewed each other's pictures and laughed about their shared expe-
riences. ❑
