Libraries. Here's an easy way
to encourage your kids to love
books. Take them to a library.
Besides being a fee-free pastime,
libraries offer so many opportu-
nities. It only takes a little home-
work on your part to discover an
upcoming storytime session, craft
hour or puppet show. Some of the
more kid-friendly libraries are
Farmington Hills, (248) 553-
0300, where there are a tree
house, puzzles, learning activity
centers (you don't have to be a
Farmington Hills resident to par-
ticipate in many of the programs),
CD's, videos and computer games
to play at the library. At the Troy
Library, (248) 524-3538, piles of
puzzles greet kids in a comfy play
area. A puppet theater and
dozens of puppets await little
hands. The Baldwin Library in

tures professional storytellers on

for bibliophiles. Coming up this
June at Halfway Down the Stairs
in Rochester, (24a) -652-6066, are
two exciting programs. On June
14 at 11 a.m., youngsters ages 4
and up are welcome to the Her-
mit Crab Derby. There will be
Hermit the Crab stories and a
race to which kids can bring their
own crab or use one from the
store. On June 21 at 11 a.m., mu-
sic educator Brenda MacDonald
will host Infantsong Bounces and
Rhymes for the Beginning of T ife.
Rock, cuddle and move to musi-
cal sounds and more.

Every Sunday at 1 p.m. and on
Saturdays at 11 a.m., there's al-
