Boating Safety
Course

To enjoy the myriad of water
sports Michigan's landscape of-
fers, it is important to understand
and abide by regulations con-
cerning boating safety on state
waterways. Recent tragedies
highlight the need for careful and
knowledgeable vehicle operation.
In order to contribute to pub-
lic safety and the enjoyment of
the summer outdoor season,
Bloomfield Township Public Li- ,7)
brary has scheduled a boating
safety course for Saturdays June
21 and 28 (10 am to 1 pm) to be
held at the library located at 1099
Lone Pine Road in Bloomfield
Township.
Those who own a boat and/or
personal water craft (PWC), or
have a child between the ages of
12 and 16, are welcome to attend
the two-session Michigan Boat-
ing Basics Course that is being
offered in cooperation with the
Marine Safety Division of the
Oakland County Sheriffs de-
partment. Attendance both days
is mandatory for obtaining certi-
fication. (Michigan law requires
that children under the age of 16
cannot lawfully operate a boat or
PWC on state waters without
this certificate.)
Pencil and social security num-
ber are to be brought on the first
day of class. Advance registra-
tion, beginning May 19, is re-
quired and enrollment is limited.
