U American Heart Association WE'RE FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE Ralph Kiner in his playing days with the Pirates. Baseball Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner will be the recipient of the Hank Greenberg Memorial Life- time Achievement Award on June 9. Kiner hit 369 home runs dur- ing his career in the 19. 40s and `50s with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and Cleveland In- dians. He will be honored Mon- day, June 9, at the seventh annual Hank Greenberg Memo- rial Golf & Tennis Invitational at Tam O'Shanter Country Club. The annual event, sponsored by the Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, benefits the Hank Greenberg Oncology Fund at Sinai Hospital. Kiner led the National League in home runs for seven straight years while playing for Pitts- burgh. In 1949, he hit 54 home runs, had 127 runs batted in while batting .310. The following year he hit 47 homers and bat- ted in 118. He twice hit five home runs in two consecutive games. In 1975, Kiner was elected to Cooperstown and in 1987 the Pi- rates retired his number.
