"the most incredible place to have a Bar Mitzvah!" - Geoffrey Sack West Bloomfield /— classic recordings that just don't work? This is espe- cially true in this case, though, be- cause not only is the artist adding his own touches to others' poetry, he's working with writings that may be all that remains of children deport- ed to a Nazi con- centration camp. These poems are, for many, almost sacred, and the music doesn't do them justice. It's not especially mem- orable and, unfortunately, at times is almost tedious. The Van Gogh-like il- lustrations are colorful and do a wonderful job of giving a real feel to the scene, especial- ly in one picture where the boy and his mother sit looking over the hills. Inevitably, the language becomes a little stilt-, ed when it comes to religious matters (though his mother covers her hair, the boy refers to Shabbat as "Saturday"), but otherwise this is a pleasant book.
