THINK ESTHER'S

...An Elegant Wedding Gift?

school-age children, the book
features activities that, for the
most part, begin with an expla-
nation of the disability and in-
clude teacher-adult guidelines.
For example, right-handed chil-
dren are asked to use their left
hand to trace a shape, then dis-
cuss how it felt to function
with a physical limitation.
We All Come in Different
Packages may be ordered
through local book stores.

How It Feels. Though not a
toy, How It Feels To Live with
a Physical Disabilityis a mov-
ing collection of essays by
young persons with a variety of
disabilities. In their own words,
these men and women de-
scribe their daily lives. A man
born with no arms demon-
strates how he holds a pencil.
A teen-age girl matter-of-factly
tells how she was paralyzed in
an airplane crash when she
was 4. Now she skis sitting on
a mono-board and attends high
school in a wheelchair.
With photos by Jill Kre-
mentz, How It Feels shows
faces of courage and optimism.
While written for ages 11-14, it
may be read to younger chil-
dren.

Toy Guide For Differently
Abled Kids. For the past sev-
eral years, Toys R Us has dis-
tributed this catalog which
features a helpful key to show
parents the skills (tactile, fine
motor, auditory) the toys
would encourage. The cata-
log's models are disabled chil-
dren whose wheelchairs or
hearing aids are just an every-
day part of the new landscape
in children's toys. Look for the
guide at your. nearest Toys R
Us.
