Names Honorees
Na'amat USA, Greater Detroit Council will
honor two veteran volunteers at its Spir-
itual Adoption Luncheon noon Tuesday,
May 20, at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Belle Glenner Schwartz has a long his-
tory as a volunteer starting with her years
as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She
worked with young people for many years
with USY at Adat Shalom. Her longest ser-
vice has been with se-
niors, from Meals on
Wheels to providing
shopping, transporta-
tion and arranging for
housekeeping services.
In her Na'amat chapter,
Hanita, and on the
council level, her contri-
butions have been as fi-
nancial secretary, funds Margaret Bialkin
vice president and pres-
ident of Hanita as well
as council Histadrut
chairman, financial sec-
retary, funds vice-pres-
ident and president of
council.
Margaret Bialkin has
been a volunteer with
Na'amat since 1948. As
a member of Dimona
Belle Schwartz
Chapter, she has served
as financial secretary,
dues chairman and president. On the coun-
cil level, she has served numerous times
as chairman of council installations, edi-
tor of the Na'amat Cookbook and financial
secretary of council. She is council finan-
cial secretary.
Also honored at the annual Spiritual
Adoption Luncheon will be Lila Orbach,
TV journalist, who will be awarded the
"Celebration of Women" award.

Dr. Ellen Cannon, political scientist and an authori-
ty on Jewish feminism, will be the guest speaker at
the Metro Detroit State of Israel Bonds Women's Di-
vision Diamond Trustee/Prime Minister's Club Din-
ner in tribute to Barbara Nusbaum 6 p.m. Tuesday,
May 13, at the home of Doreen and David Hermelin.
Ellen Cannon
Dr. Cannon has served as vice president of the
American Jewish Congress and has been midwest region commissioner for Jewish
Women's Equality. Additionally, she served on the executive board of the Jewish Women's
Caucus of the National Women's Studies Association and is a task force member of the
Chicago Human Relations Commission.

Richard Joel, executive director of Hillel International
and president of the Foundation for Jewish Cam-
pus Life, will address the United Jewish Foundation
annual meeting 4 p.m. Wednesday June 4, at the Max
M. Fisher Building.
Prior to coming to Hillel, Mr. Joel was associate
dean and professor of law at the Benjamin Cardozo
School of Law at Yeshiva University. He also was di-
rector of university alumni affairs at Yeshiva Uni-
versity and assistant district attorney and deputy
chief of the Law Division in the Bronx.
New endowment donors will be honored, and offi-
