Temple Shir Shalom will hold a
kick-off meeting of the Golden
Branch, the temple's new orga-
nization for those aged 59 and
up 7:30 p.m. at the temple.
Discussion of programming
and election of officers will take
place at this inaugural meeting.

will host a parent information-
al meeting on the Jewish Edu-
cational Loan Service (JELS)
and additional financial aid op-
tions for college students, 7 p.m.
Tuesday, May 6, in the JVS li-
brary in Southfield.
JELS Coordinator Marvin
Berman will discuss how to ap-
ply for an interest-free loan of-
fered through JELS. JELS is
open to metro Detroit area Jew-
ish residents and is adminis-
tered through JVS, Hebrew
Free Loan Association and Jew-
ish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit. Although the meeting
will be directed toward parents,
students are welcome to attend.

Young at Heart, Congregation
Beth Achim's Senior Group, will
meet at noon on Thursday, May
8, at the synagogue. The pro-
gram will feature Sharon Alter-
man, director of the Jewish
Community Archives, who will
speak on "The Preservation of
the Jewish Community Archives,
Its History and Memorabilia." In
addition, the slate of officers and
board members for 1997-98 will
be presented.
A mini-lunch will be served

noon Thursday, eight days pri-
or to issue date. The deadline
for birth announcements is 10
a.m. Monday, four days prior
to issue date; out-of-town obit-
uaries, 10 a.m. Tuesday. three
days prior to issue date.
