THE MICHIGAN Madeline Posner decided to go into the art business after volunteering at the Detroit In- stitute of Arts. Her first clients were in the corporate world. On the rare occasions when there's a disagreement, the two try to avoid the topic for a while and take time to think it through. "It's great to know I have someone I can really depend on," Madeline Posner said. "We are equally committed to the gallery, and we enjoy spending time with our clients, who have, at times, become personal friends." Ironically, days off also mean time together. With both de- voted to the gallery, the time away from it often involves scouting new talent to show. Elaine and Eve Redmond, the only artists in the group, left a co-op of artists two years ago to open their own gallery at 200 W. Fifth Ave. in Royal Oak. The name Clique comes from their shared interest in photography and is a variation on the "click" of the camera. "Our own art is not on the walls because we don't want to detract from the shows that change every six weeks," Elaine Redmond said. "Eve is like my soul mate, and it's nice to work with someone who understands what rm talking about." Elaine Redmond, who earned her bachelor's degree from Wayne State University and her master's from Western Michigan University, is a for- mer art teacher who introduced both her son and her daughter to her favorite subject. After her son put a dark room in the house, her daughter took up photography, and the senior Redmond soon followed. Their photos, which explore the theme of erosion, have been on display together in other galleries. "rm the business person, and she's better at involving people," said Eve Redmond, who at- tended the Center for Creative Studies. All three galleries often fea- ture works by Jewish artists. Because of the nature of the pieces shown at the Detroit Gallery of Contemporary Crafts, Judaica items such as mezuzahs, menorahs and drei- dels can be found in unique and creative forms. The Posner Gallery recently featured work by New York artist Marilyn Cohen, whose collages based on family photos expressed the Jewish immi- grant experience. Clique has scheduled the prints of Deborah Friedman to be on display May 27-July 12. ❑ 1\1()1 )1E1 .11c1 EXPOSITION AN EXPOSITION AND SALE OF 20TH CENTURY DESIGN F JEWELRY ART GLASS POTTERY CHINA BRONZES RADIOS CLOCKS WATCHES ARCHITECTURAL PAINTINGS BOOKS CLOTHING ART NOUVEAU, ART DECO, STREAMLINE, PRAIRIE SCHOOL, GREEK, EGYPTIAN AND GOTHIC REVIVAL, SURREALISM AND NEO-BAROQUE, ARTS & CRAFTS, INDUSTRIAL DESIGN, FIFTIES, SIXTIES, ART MODERNE, TRAMP -ART AND MUCH MORE -.PLUS AN EXQUISITE SAMPLING OF THE WORLD'S CURRENT DESIGN MOVEMENTS AND "DESIGNER SHOWCASE", A ROOM SETTING SPOTLIGHTING DECADES OF THE MOST SUPERB DESIGNS IN HOME FURNISHINGS APRIL 26 & 27 1997 9 SOUTHFIELD CIVIC CENTER ON EVERGREEN AT 10 1/2 MILE ROAD SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN SAT 11 - 9, SUN 12-5 PHOTOGRAPHS TEXHLES TV'S LAMPS POSTER ART COWBOY MEMORABILIA GALA PREVIEW APRIL 25 7 - 10 PM TO BENEFIT THE DETROIT AREAART DECO SOCIETY HORS D'OEUVRES, WINE & ENTERTAINMENT. $60 ADVANCE.
