III t was a spring evening in Oak Park and the
artists, drinks in hand, mingled with the crit-
ics.
The drink was nonalcoholic fruit punch,
and festivities ended by 8 p.m. to accommodate
the early bedtimes of these nursery-school
painters and sculptors.
This was Temple Emanu-El's annual nursery-
school art show, which displays the work of 165
young students. Children keep a portfolio of the
year's work and get to pick which pieces they want
displayed.
"The message is that their art is as valuable to
us as any gallery or museum art," said Michae-
ly-n Silverman, director of the nursery school. ❑
