The modern steel sculpture, which will be unveiled in the pres- ence of the Rabin family, will stand in Daniel Park, in the Jerusalem municipality complex. Mr. Lichtenstein, 73, was one of the founders of the 1960s Pop Art movement. Known as Modern Head, the 10-yard-high sculpture depicts two simplified heads in profile, combined with other abstract shapes often seen in Mr. Licht- * enstein's paintings. According to Suzanne Landau, curator of the Israel Museum's Collection of Modern Art, "This sculpture is very special. It uses the vocabulary of painting as if it were a drawing in space." The sculpture, which was do- nated jointly by Mr. Lichtenstein and art dealer Jeffrey Loria, is said to be worth $2.5 million. Turkish Official Is Berated Washington (JTA) — Turkey's chief foreign policy emissary was sorely mistaken if he thought that the American Jews sitting around a table with him were there to compliment his government's in- /— creased military cooperation with Israel. One by one, the eight Jewish officials gathered at the Turkish Embassy ticked off recent anti- Semitic and anti-Israel state- ments by senior Turkish officials and in the media. Abdullah Gul, Turkey's minis- ter of state with close ties to the \— )prime minister, listened patient- ly at the one-hour session, which was arranged by the American Jewish Committee and attended by representatives of the Anti- Defamation League, B'nai B'rith and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. The meeting came at a time when Turkish society is wrestling with the thorny question of \ 3 - whether to maintain its secular traditions or move toward an Is- lamic state. Last year's election saw the rise of the highest rank- ing Islamist to government, Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan. Mr. Erbakan's embrace of Libya and Iran has further fueled concern over the direction of the country. At the same time, however, a \ Dhigh-level Turkish delegation vis- ited the Jewish state to strength- en Israeli-Turkish military relations. E] Choose the Equity Line that's right for you.
