ELIZABETH APPLEBAUM EDITOR

NEW
ON CD:

Daybreak by Tanya Good-
man Sykes. Spring Hill Music
Group, Inc.

What a nice way
to wake up.
This is a gentle
collection of songs
to help your little
one (or ones) out
of bed in the
morning. There
are encouraging
songs like "Don't
Be Blue," happy
numbers like
"Handshakes and
Smiles," tradition-
al favorites like
"Mockingbird
Hill" and whimsical songs like
"Socks On First":

Socks on first, shoes on sec-
ond
That's what I say
Socks on first, shoes on sec-
ond
not the other way
If you put your shoes on first
socks on second
For goodness sake
your socks will get holes from
stretching
and your toes will ache.

There's no single outstand-
ing number here, but nor is
there anything so dreadful
you'll have to skip a song. No
doubt children will have the
most fun with the silly songs,
so get ready to hear them re-
peatedly.
Parents should be aware
that the lyrics make two reli-
gious references that are de-
cidedly not Jewish. "Dare to
Dream" describes God as "the
Father above," while "That
Little Child of Mine" includes
a tribute to a little boy who
bows his head to pray.

Let's Have a Seder by Miri-
am Sagasti, published by Kar-
Ben Copies, Inc.

This is a thoroughly delight-
ful book for young toddlers. It
has just a few pages, which
nicely introduce the story of
Passover to those with the
shortest of attention spans.
