But there's plenty you can do with blue (along with a healthy dose of white, of course) to cele- brate Israel's independence, on S Iyar, which this year falls on May 12. Begin by having your family deck themselves entirely in blue-and-white clothing, every- Otwtoga 0 ,u "''''Ammeas , o. thing from shoes to neckties to hair barrettes. Next, start your day off with blue cereal or eggs (now, don't those sound appetizing?). They're easy enough to make by adding a few drops of blue food coloring to your milk or scram- bled eggs. If fruit is more your style, you can always top off that healthy slice of melon with a moSettOIVA,:'4\;*; heaping dollop of sugar-filled, blue whipped cream. How ut- terly appetizing. To carry the theme through- out the day, consider an all- white meal for lunch: rice and pasta are two ideas. Then for dinner, how about a completely blue-and-white ban- quet of pancakes topped with blueberries and whipped cream or vanilla ice cream? (Incidental- ly, a few drops of blue food col- oring mixed in with the batter will leave you with blue pan- cakes.) Or, you could make a regular pizza dough (this is the white) topped with blueberries. Next, consider decorating your home in blue-and-white streamers and homemade flags of Israel.
