He earned his bach- elor of arts degree from New York University and was a graduate of the Herzliah Teachers Academy. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946, he joined Temple Beth El of Rochester as its cantor — the first and only pulpit he held. Since 1959, Cantor Rosen- baum served as the profession- al head of the 450-member Cantors Assembly after com- pleting a three-year term as its president. He was one of 10 cantors who founded the group in 1947. During his tenure, Cantor Rosenbaum developed a series of innovative programs. An au- thor and composer, Cantor Rosenbaum wrote four text- books and the Yiddish Word Book for English Speaking People, the world's only Yid- - dish word book that transliter- ates Yiddish into English. He also served as the editor of the Cantors Assembly's Journal of Synagogue Music and as a con- sultant to the Prayer Book Press. He is survived by his wife, Ina C. Levi Rosenbaum; chil- dren, Michael Rosenbaum of New York, David Rosenbaum of Los Angeles, Judith Witt of Evanston, Ill; three grandchil- dren.
