LYNNE MEREDITH COHN STAFF WRITER ombining common histories of oppression with common goals for the future, African C Americans and Jews will come together on Thursday, April 10, for the eighth annual Anti- Defamation League black-Jewish seder. Co-chair Judi Rosen is expect- ing more than 300 people for the event, which will be held at Tem- ple Shir Shalom in West Bloom- field. Shir Shalom Rabbis Dannel Schwartz and Michael Moskowitz, as well as Pastor Larry T. Jordan and Rev. Carl Graham of the Family Victory Fellowship Church in Southfield, will partic- ipate. The ADL in New York started a black-Jewish dialogue group, which spawned the seder idea. `The seder talks about the escape from slavery," says Ms. Rosen. "Perhaps, in different ways, the two groups share this common bond. The [black-Jewish] seder was begun as another means to bridge the gap between the com- munities, and it's a way to come together in our similarities and still recognize our uniqueness." The seder will blend the tradi- tional with the contemporary, says Ms. Rosen. The special Haggadah for the event mixes the Four Ques- tions, prayers and seder plate of a traditional Passover seder with "relevant passages from the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., Arch- bishop Desmond Tutu, Anne Frank and Peter Fischl [a 15-year- old Holocaust victim]," she says.
