That includes Lake Waldon Village in Independence Township, a 161-home develop- ment set on the 150-acre former Camp Owecki of the Campfire Girls of America; and Waldon Preserve, across from the Pine Knob Golf Course, which is open- ing this spring with 80 homes on 100 acres." In addition, Mr. Silverman controls two parcels at 1-75 and Sashabaw Road, which are ear- marked for future commercial use. The Clarkston area has been booming since the opening of Chrysler Corporation's world headquarters on 1-75 in Auburn Hills. In South Lyon, the Silverman Companies have two communi- ties — Oak Creek Village and Trotter's Pointe. The firm also has 500 in South Lyon. "The important factor is that the city of South Lyon has sewer and water, where much of the area surrounding it does not," Mr. Silverman said. The organization also has ma- jor developments in Commerce, Lake Orion, Rochester, and in Pittsfield Township near Ann Ar- bor's Briarwood Mall, an area Mr. Silverman calls one of the busiest markets in southeastern Michigan. In Detroit, the Silvermans are involved in the first new home construction development in the Federal Urban Empowerment Zone, in the Belle Isle area near East Grand Boulevard and Lafayette. The homes are on Townsend Street in Islandview Village. Mr. Silverman's company strategy also includes develop- ment of closer-in suburban sites, like Bloomfield Chase, his newest development, on Telegraph and Long Lake roads. "We assembled enough land for 42 new homes. And the first week we opened, in December, we received over 20 deposits. That's in December, in Michigan, at $400,000 per house," said Mr. Silverman. Mr. Silverman has also been involved with building a number of Village Green Apartments in Ann Arbor, Farmington Hills, Southfield and Canton. He's now building Lake Village Apart- ments, near Bald Mountain State Park in Auburn Hills, which he called "the next gen- eration of luxury housing." Waiting in the wings is the Lake Village of Auburn Hills, which will be located at Baldwin Road and 1-75, the same inter- section as the Taubman Com- pany's proposed megamall.
