ter's degree in 1973 in educa-
tional counseling from the uni-
versity. She also completed a
two-year program at the St.
Louis Psychoanalytic Institute.
She taught elementary school
in the early 1970s and worked
as a pediatric counselor. Mrs.
Lauter had been a member of
many community organiza-
tions, including the Jewish
Federation Women's Division,
Miriam Foundation, Jewish
Family and Children's Ser-
vices, Hadassah, National
Council of Jewish Women and
the Wellness Community. She
was also a former president of
the Clayton High School PTO.
She is survived by her hus-
band, Dr. Steven Lauter; sons,
Aaron and Robert Lauter of
Clayton; brothers, Scott
Williams of St. Louis and Stu-
art Williams of Newton, Mass.;
brother-in-law and sister-in-
law, Dr. Carl and Jain Lauter
of West Bloomfield. Mrs.
Lauter was the loving daugh-
ter of the late Albert M.
Williams and the late Lois Sc-

DR. MARVIN BARTHELL
LEVY, 86, former Detroiter of
Gainesville, Fla., died March

22. After graduation from
Wayne State University Med-
ical School, Dr. Levy special-
ized in obstetrics and gynecolo-
gy and became the chief of
staff at North Detroit General
Hospital. He practiced medi-
cine in Ferndale until his re-
tirement in 1991. He was a
member of Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue. He was awarded the
certificate of Official Mohel of
Ecuador in recognition of ser-
vices to that community.
He is survived by his wife of
60 years, Ethel Feinstein Levy;
son and daughter-in-law, Dr.
Norman Stuart and Roz Levy
of Gainesville; daughter, Rho-
da Sue Levy of Woodenville,
Wash.; grandchildren, Debo-
