Scene" seeks to provide a
look at exactly what the
Detroit Jewish community has
to offer. It doesn't end here, of
course, but here's a taste of what
young Jews in the area can sink
their teeth into.

YAD — Federation's
Young Adult Division

For young adults, post-college
to 35, single and married. Com-
munity outreach, social, politi-
cal, cultural programming. At
least two events per month.
Provides a wide range of so-
cial, educational and cultural
programming as well as oppor-
tunities for leadership develop-
ment and volunteer involvement
in the Jewish community.

B'nai B'rith
Leadership Network

Big on community service,
sports and social events for Jew-
ish adults between 20 and 40.
Contributes basketball, vol-
leyball and softball teams to the
Michigan Regional Council of
B'nai B'rith-sponsored leagues.
Bowling and billiards leagues,
plus a new golf league beginning
this spring/summer.
Social events include Polaroid
scavenger hunt, murder mystery
dinner, annual jazz party, com-
edy nights, laser light shows.

Hillel of Metro Detroit

Catering to Jewish students
and post-graduate young adults
between 18 and 30 in the Detroit
metro area.
For post-graduate adults,
HMD plans monthly social
events such as hayrides, casino
nights, coffeehouse nights and
canoeing. Committees: sports,
social action, social events, Unit-
ed Jewish Appeal, AIPAC, Jew-
ish awareness, young adult
connection, outreach/engage-
ment.

Young Adult Committee of
JARC, the Jewish Associa-

tion for Residential Care

In its fourth year, the JARC
young adult committee provides
an opportunity for young adults,
post-college to 35ish, to have
some "hands-on" experience with
JARC, an agency which aids de-
velopmentally disabled individ-
uals.
Several events per year, in-
cluding a fall S-ukkah Building
Brigade, April 13 billiards party
and the annual young adult fall
fund-raiser pre-glow and show.

Young Adult Shabbat Service
(PASS)

Started two years ago as a
spiritual source for marrieds-
without-children and singles.
Hosted by Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue; open to the entire com-
munity.
Held once a month, toward the
middle of the month, on Friday
nights, with a kiddush to follow
— plenty of opportunities to so-
cialize.

Hadassah, Ruach Chapter

Attempting to trade the "old-
fashioned view" of Hadassah for
a modern one. Chapter for young
Jewish professional women.
Chartered in May 1995, Ru-
ach, which means spirit, is for
women aged 22-35. At least one
event every month, ranging from
seminars on nutrition and stress
management to educational and
outreach as well as a study
group.

Second Sunday Schmoozers

In an effort to meet more Jew-
ish singles, Phyllis Perry, a 40-
something divorced clinical social
worker, launched Second Sun-
day Schmoozers, an Ann Arbor-
based group for singles ages
25-55. Schmoozer brunches at-
tract people from the Detroit sub-
urbs, Flint, Grand Blanc and
Canada. The average age of
Schmoozers is 40, and most are
divorced or have never been mar-
ried.

Eight months ago, Cindy Lev-
en started JPS for people aged
30-50.

`There are groups and dating
services aimed at people in their
20s or at seniors. The middle
group is kind of invisible because
we are supposed to be at home,

Israel Bonds, New Leader-
ship Division
