Maccabiah Tryout For Basketball Detroiter Bill Berris, co-chair of for the U.S. junior basketball team for the World Maccabiah Games in Israel this summer, has an- nounced two tryouts for the team. Boys ages 14-16 can try out at Wayne (N.J) Valley High School on March 29-30 or at Horowitz Jewish Community Center in Chicago, In, on April 5-6. Boys who are selected for the U.S. team will have their expenses paid for a pre-camp in New York and their trip to Israel in July. Detroit Women Lead Tourney Detroit teams swept the top four places in the team series catego- ry at the recent Jewish Women International Mid-America Re- gion bowling tournament. Fifty-eight teams representing Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Min- /- neapolis, St. Paul and St. Louis participated in the February event here. Galilee league bowlers swept the team series event. Finishing first with 5,807 pins was a team of Alice Labes, Nancy Glasser, Jill Lepler, Stacey Silverstein and Judy Herskovitz. They were followed by Dianne Schneider, Leigh Herskovic, Lyn- da Steinberg, Sue Hersh and Shel- ley Goldin, second place, 5,671; Cidnie Herold, Judi Grant, Ethel Fine, Fran Klinger and Karen Minc, third place, 5,658; and An- nette Rubinstein, Carolyn Fine, Marilyn Stern, Sharon Rubinstein and Hanle Serling, fourth place, 5,639.
