products would make a health-
conscious person croak. Moder-
ately high to loaded with fat and
sodium, they have very little re-

when you are eating'one of these
treats, it's hard to remember
fruits, vegetables and that kind
of junk.

McKee Foods, the largest pro-
ducer of snack cakes in America,
has been producing Little Deb-
bie snacks since 1957. Their
treats are supervised by Dr. J.H.
Ralbag of New York City. Just
for your trivial knowledge, Deb-
bie was the granddaughter of the
founder O.D. McKee.
And what a genius he was.
The Rating:
I have always been a fan of Lit-
tle Debbie's snacks. I remember
sneaking into my mother's
freezer, reaching behind vats of
frozen soup to find her hidden
cache of Swiss Rolls. I would pil-
fer two at a time, fleeing from
the house to enjoy a moment of
quiet bliss.
So, I was really shocked to
find that I preferred the Yodels
to the Swiss Rolls. They had a
stronger chocolate taste and
moister cake than Deb's. I was
crestfallen and immediately
blamed my mother for leading
me to believe that Deb was the
best baker in the world.
However, I did prefer the Lit-
tle Debbie cupcake offering to
the Ring Dings and Royal's Dev-
il's Food Cakes over the horri-
fying Drake's Devil Dogs.

Tilling is wonderful! Lots of it!
Chocolate is very good! I like it.
Cake is a little dry."
—Nancy Cameron
"What kind of farce is this?
Cake is not nearly as light and
fluffy as Little Debbie, and over-
all flavor just cannot compare
to Debbie. OK, I will concede the
chocolate coating is rich and
yummy."

A
s a parent, I am beginning
to understand the impor-
tance of individually
wrapped snack cakes.
Sure, it is bad for the environ-
ment to have so much non-
biodegradable plastic around.
But when you have to make
lunches and can't possibly fath-
om whipping up a cake or cook-
ies for your kid to throw in the
trash the next day, nothing is
easier than tossing a prepared
snack cake into the sack. Mak-
ing the kid believe that you not
only made the cake but wrapped
it in the plastic bag is harder.
