At the age of 16, Mrs. Borenstein enrolled at Northwestern University and Hebrew Teachers College. She graduated from Northwestern in 1950 with a bachelor's de- gree in modern languages; she was fluent in Latin and Hebrew and studied French, Spanish and Aramaic. During her youth in Boston, she was active in the Labor Zionist movement. Mrs. Borenstein was a re- tired Hebrew teacher. For more than a decade, she taught He- brew and religious classes for Congregation Beth Tikvah, Temple Israel and Columbus Community Hebrew Schools. She also was a supervisor at Burke Marketing Research in Columbus. She was a legal sec- retary in Connecticut and Col- orado. Mrs. Borenstein was ac- tive in the Temple Sisterhood in Columbus and Planned Par- enthood and the Quad City Club in Illinois. She was a Cub Scout den mother in Columbus.
