A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

BRENT S. TRIEST

The agency faces many challenges and exciting
programs as we begin the new year. Our primary
focus this year will be the implementation of
our Strategic Plan which was completed this past
year with input from board, staff, cli-
ents, colleagues and members from
the community. The Strategic Plan
Review Board Committee headed by
past president, Dr. John Marx, is help-
ing to ensure that the plan is smoothly
integrated into agency operations.
A grant from the Jewish Federa-
tion of Metropolitan Detroit has en-
abled the agency to develop a unique
and comprehensive immigration and
citizenship program in response to Welfare Re-
form which will create great hardship for many
vulnerable individuals and refugees. This pro-
gram is critical at a time when legal immigrants
and former refugees who are not yet citizens
stand to lose government assistance and ben-
efits. The West Bloomfield office has been ex-

panded to accommodate members of the com-
munity living in the Farmington and Bloomfield
areas. The full range of programs that the
agency offers continues to be provided at the
Southfield Office.
As an organization which serves
over 1,680 elderly individuals a year,
we applaud the Jewish Federation for
the creation of the Commission on
Jewish Eldercare Services (COJES).
We look forward to a new era of
cooperation and integrated commu-
nity service.
Special thanks is extended to
those who contributed to the Annual
Friends of the Family Campaign. Your
contribution will provide us with the funds to
assist individuals and families, when other
sources of assistance are not available. We will
continue to work together as a team to
address Welfare Reform and the unmet needs
of the community.
