athletic success is usu-
ally equated with wa-
ter. The Bloomfield
Hills school is a long-
time state swimming
powerhouse. But its teams also do
well when the water turns to ice.
Under Coach John Farrell, the
Barons have been consistent win-
ners in recent years. Through mid-
February, Andover is 13-5 overall
this season. The team is 7-4 in
Suburban Hockey League action,
good for second place in the North
Division.
Andover's top player is 5-foot-
10, 200-pound senior center David
Tigay, a co-captain and Class B-
CD All-Stater last year. Although
the Barons play a defensive-mind-
ed style, Tigay is among the De-
troit area's top scorers with 30
goals and 57 assists (through Feb.
12).
"He's a complete hockey play-
er," says Farrell. "He's big and
strong. He knows the game,
knows the finer details. He's phys-
ical, yet has a good scoring touch."
Senior left wing Jerod Lutz (5-
10, 175), who skates on Tigay's
line, is Andover's third leading
scorer with 17 goals and 18 as-
sists.
