Darchei Torah
Purim Shop

Yeshivas Darchei Torah's sixth
annual One Stop Purim Shop
will be held 1-5 p.m. Sunday,
March 9, at the Agency for Jew-
ish Education, 21550 W. 12 Mile
Road, Southfield.
Children's costumes and an ar-
ray of shaloch manot supplies
(baskets and boxes, candy, wine
and grape juice) will be sold.
A special Fun Day for Kids
program, with arts and crafts and
videos, will keep the children en-
tertained.

Danto Seeks
Volunteers

The Marvin and Betty Danto
Family Health Care Center is
looking for volunteers. The nurs-
ing home facility, 6800 West
Maple, serves the Jewish com-
munity.

Russian
Outreach Event

Machon L'Torah will hold a pro-
gram 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March
2, for the Russian outreach divi-
sion at Machon. The program will
include an educational lecture by
Rabbi Jacobowitz on 'The Art of
Pleasure." Roman Lundin will
translate into Russian.
Refreshments will be served.

Organ Donation
Is Discussed

Dr. Martin F. Mozes, chief of kid-
ney and pancreas transplanta-
tion at Henry Ford Hospital in
Detroit, will speak on ethical is-
sues in organ donation, 10 a.m.-
noon Sunday, March 2, at the
Birmingham Temple's Sunday
Seminar discussion series.
Dr. Mozes will discuss his ed-
ucation and career as an organ
transplant surgeon in a casual
and informal setting, welcoming
questions from the audience.

Federation Grants
Are Awarded

The Jewish Federation of Met-
ropolitan Detroit has approved
six grants totaling $78,500 from
its Max M. Fisher Jewish Com-
munity Foundation.
The funds will go for a variety
of projects sponsored by agencies,
organizations and congregations.
Grants are given for innovative

projects and may be renewed af-
ter the first year for two more
years.
Recipients are as follows: The
Jewish Family Service received
$7,000 for a child-friendly comic
book which teaches about Jew-
ish family life and Jewish values.
In its final year of funding, the
University of Michigan-Dearborn
Holocaust Oral History Project
has received $8,000 to expand the
university's Holocaust Archive
Program and enter it into an in-
ternational bibliography data-
base, making the histories
available to 17,000 libraries
around the world.
A grant of $15,500 went to the
University of Michigan Hillel
Foundation for its Half Shekel
Campaign. The special cam-
paign, on behalf of the United
Jewish Appeal, encourages 100
percent participation of Jewish
students on campus.
Michigan State University will
expand its Jewish studies pro-
gram with the help of a $23,000
Fisher Foundation grant. The
grant will enhance the Hebrew
curriculum and make possible
additional courses. In its third
year of Fisher grant funding,
Fresh Air Society's Horizons Pro-
gram, which integrates children
with special needs into an
overnight Jewish camping expe-
rience, will double the number of
campers with a grant of $5,000
from the Fisher Foundation. The
grant will support the addition of
counselors to supervise the 24
campers and a Horizons coordi-
nator.
A grant of $20,000 was award-
ed to the International Institute
for Secular Humanistic Judaism
for its Colloquium '97. The col-
loquium presents an education-
al opportunity for a cross section
of lay people from the Jewish
community.
Grant monies from the Max.
M. Fisher Jewish Community
Foundation come from income of
the general fund of the United
Jewish Foundation. The UJF
provides an annual allocation to
Federation,apf which $200,000 is
earmarked for grants for worthy
projects.
