restaurants with the best view
and more.
With such a hectic working life,
there's not much time for these
two to sleep. "When do we sleep?
When we're not giving a tour,"
says Ms. Skolnik cheerfully. She
looks surprisingly energetic, even
though the tour last night lasted
until 5 a.m. — and the two part-
ners were in the office by 9 a.m.
Just like true Tel Avivians, they
thrive on the hectic pace and the
non-stop activity. But they're not
natives. Ms. Hoffman is original-
ly from suburban New York, al-
though she's lived in Israel for 19
years. Ms. Skolnik; a Baltimore
native, has been in Tel Aviv for
three years.
Both were Jewish youth lead-
ers before they teamed up. Ms.
Hoffman had been assistant di-
rector of Zionist Organization of
America in Baltimore for two
years, and first came to Israel to
work for ZOA. And Ms. Skolnik
served as a youth leader for Israel
in New York for two years.
But then she came to Israel to
live, and just like Ms. Hoffman,
she became an avid fan of Tel Aviv
and an active participant in its
night life.
Even before the two knew each
other, each had become an unof-
ficial expert on Tel Aviv. Friends
and acquaintances would call on
them when they wanted good
suggestions of places to go.
As for Ms. Hoffman, who was
then leading ZOA groups when
they came to Israel, she started
taking them to off-the-beaten-path
places. 'Td take them to places in
Tel Aviv that I had discovered,
places that Israelis go to, and they
loved it," she relates.
By the time Ms. Hoffman and
Ms. Skolnik met, they were ripe
to develop- their enthusiasm for
nightime Tel Aviv into a busi-
ness. "We started to brainstorm
about ways to give visitors a new
type of Israel experience, and it
involved into Late Night Tel
Aviv," says Ms. Skolnik.
It's been evolving ever since,
with the two entrepreneurs
adding new tours and new sites
as their business expands. For
instance, a recent new offering
is a Sunday evening "Night Ar-
chitecture Tour." It's a new ap-
proach to Tel Aviv's varied
architecture because it shows
visitors some of the city's famous
noteworthy sites from a new per-
spective, against the backdrop
of night. And it's at night that
some famous landmarks like the
Agam fountain in Dizengoff
Square are shown to best ad-
vantage.
Enjoying their city round the
clock suits these two night owls.
They thrive on its pleasures day
and night — and on sharing
those pleasures with others.
"We love it when people have
a great time in Tel Aviv," says
Ms. Skolnik.
