The Jimmy Prentis Morris Jew-
ish Community Center will pre-
sent Rabbi David Nelson of
Congregation Beth Shalom at 1
p.m. Monday, Feb. 17.
Rabbi Nelson will speak on
Jewish communities in the Ama-
zon, as well as the Bahia and Rio
communities of Brazil.
This is the beginning of a four-
part series titled `Travel with the
Rabbi." There is a fee for non-
members.
In honor of President's Day,
soloist Susan Green and pianist
Nathalie Conrad will perform 1
p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20. There is
a fee for non-members.
Vivian Stollman, accompanied
by Sonny Lipenholtz, will lead
the senior choir on Mondays at
12:30 p.m. There is no charge.
Socials are very Wednesday
at 10 a.m. Music is provided by
local entertainers. There is a
charge.
Adult art classes are held
every Monday, Wednesday and
Friday from 9 a.m.-noon with
Harriet Gelfond. This is an on-
going beginning class using var-
ious media. There is a fee which
includes art supplies.

Skirball Institute
Essay Contest
The American Jewish Commit-
tee's Skirball Institute will spon-
sor a 1997 National High School
Essay Contest on American Val-
ues. Michigan area student en-
rolled in grades 10-12 may call
the local AJC office for applica-
tion forms. All entries must be
postmarked no later than March
17. Cash prizes will be awarded.
This year's theme is "Oppor-
tunities for Education in the
United States — Past, Present
and Future." To what extent do
you think that we in the U.S.
have achieved equal education-
al opportunities for all our stu-
dents? What do you think still
needs to be done? Responses to
these questions should be in-
cluded in the essay.
