below me, a ripe coconut hangs
from one of the trees. Soft, white
clouds dot the sky, and the rhyth-
mic sound of the coquis — so
named because "co-qui" is what
they seem to be chirping — pro-
vides a soothing concert.
It's an idyllic setting — espe-
cially in mid-winter. Here on the
south coast of Puerto Rico, it is
sweet summertime. And • the
scene could well be Shangri-La.
Indeed, although the delight of
