P_TO MO ME.
chardonnay wine with garlic and
capers.
Single folks like Villa Maria
because of the cordiality ex-
tended to them ... And reserva-
tions are accepted from one
person on up.
Solo diners are most appre-
ciative of such treatment ... The
feeling of being wanted instead
of accepted is a very warm one.
An antipasto plate served
with all meals has kidney and
chi-bean salad about 70 percent
of the time ... The other 30 per-
cent is Caponata, eggplant rel-
ish with raisins, pine nuts,
capers, olives and tomatoes pre-
pared in an extra virgin olive oil.
Specials at both lunch and
dinner change weekly and pas-
ta fagioli is a sometimes treat.
You know it's an Italian
restaurant that cares when the
spumoni is discovered to be from
Alinosi ... It is served on a choco-
late and creme en glaise in var-
ied plate designs ... Quite a
fitting ending to a most enjoy-
able meal.
The pleasures of Villa Maria
are many.
CONGRATS ... to Ida Zim-
berg, former Detroiter now liv-
ing in Boca Raton, Fla. ... on her
90th birthday ... Belatedly, but
never too late, to sister Belle
Weingarden ... and brother Mar-
vin. Raskin ... on their birthdays.
GOOD WAITER DEPT.....
Aziz Zouhri ... at Pike Street
Villa Maria: Clean,
cozy and delicious.
Restaurant in Pontiac ... Anoth-
er of the excellent tuxedo'd
servers with cordial smiles and
know-how at this popular fine-
dining operation.
If you're interested, by the
way, check out the upstairs ban-
quet facilities at Pike Street ... A
lot of folks don't even know about
them.
OK YOU single guys and gals
... It's time to give yourselves up
... For a fee, that is.

HERE'S A BIG word of ad-
vice to go with the big portions
you get at Zia's (formerly D. Den-
nison's) on W. 12 Mile, just west
of Orchard Lake Road.
Don't let the prices on boards
around the rooms scare you ...
Orders are enough for two to
four people ... A lot of customers
split the pasta, Italian veal fa-
vorites, chicken, eggplant, etc. ...
and still get boxes to take some
home.
The more people, the lower
price meals seem to be.
Zia's is a lot like family-style
southern Italian dining, with
platters passed around.
This is a clever concept ... And
the food is good.
P.S. ... Even the napkins are
oversize.
COCO'S KORNER ... "Here's
four arfs for an affair coming up
by Michigan Humane Society.
It's their Bow Wow Brunch, Sun-
day, April 13, noon to 3 p.m. at
the Ritz-Carlton. You'd be sur-
prised at how many pets not so
fortunate as me are helped by
Michigan Humane Society. Si-
mone Vitale and his band will be
barking up a storm with music
for the affair. No treats, but
champagne and gourmet
brunch. You can get more infor-
mation by calling (810) 852-
7420."
