Interment at Hebrew Memorial Park. MELVIN MERMELL, 82, of West Bloomfield, died Feb. 3. Mr. Mermell was an engineer and inventor. He was part of a group that invented the Dil- bert Dunker, a device that as- sisted pilots in World War II in releasing themselves when the plane was to crash. Mr. Mermell also has a patent pending for a gun box that would keep children from firing a gun. He was a found- ing member and board mem- ber of Temple Israel and ush- ered for many years. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Lance and Rosalyn of Lake Orion, Marshall and Catherine of New Jersey; grandchildren, Rachel,-Joshua and Matan Mermell, Michal, Tal and Ainat Agasi. Mr. Mermell was the beloved husband of the late Etta Mermell. Interment at Hebrew Memorial Park. Dr. Pensler was a member of the U.S. Army Medical Corps and served in Europe during World War II. For many years he was a pediatri- cian in private practice in the Detroit area. He later joined the full-time staff of Children's Hospital. Dr. Pensler served as director of Ambulatory Ser- vices and was a professor at Wayne State University Med- ical School. In Raleigh, he served on the faculty of the University of North Carolina Medical School at Chapel Hill. Dr. Pensler is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances; children, Margie and Ron Glancz, Sandy and Howard Slavit, Alan and Jenny Pensler, all of the Washington, D.C., area; grandchildren, Justin and Rachel Glancz, Wendy and David Slavit, Nathan and Sam Pensler; sis- ters and brothers, Dorothy Koffman, Rose Borman, Dr. Meyer Pensler, Dr. Paul Pensler, all of the Detroit area.
