Resi's Legacy

Generations of Detroiters will miss Resi's soup and the loving friend
who served it.

and the first thing that comes to
mind is her soups. They warmed
the-bellies of hungry JCC mem-
bers, and she warmed their souls.
She left a JCC legacy of good food,
warm conversation, sound advice
and true concern for those she
considered her mishpacha — her
family.
Those who devoured her
steaming split pea, mushroom
barley or vegetable soup will miss
her. Those who got the chance to
chat in her cozy JPM kitchen
fondly reminisce about the won-
derful woman who was a second
mother or favorite aunt to so
many.
Resi's recipes were misht arein
— a little of this and a little of
that. She always thought about

the people who would eat the food
she prepared. She kept her prices
low, so that everyone would be
able to afford it. And for the few
who couldn't pay, her meals were
still available.
She had what one old friend
calls "an exceptionally good soul."
Her affection toward those she
served showed in her cooking.
The Jewish Federation's Allan
Gelfond, a former JCC depart-
ment head, said, "The way she
touched people ... she was much
more than an employee. She was
a community leader in her own
right."
The Jimmy Prentis Morris
JCC has started a fund to refur-
bish the kitchen and name it in
memory of Resi.
