Support Group
For Children

Temple Israel and SPACE, a com-
munity service program of the Na-
tional Council of Jewish Women,
will offer a 10-week support group
for children, aged 10-12 years,
whose families are either going
through the process of divorce or
who have already experienced di-
vorce. There is a closing wrap-up
session, held on the 10th week,
which includes dinner for the chil-
dren and their parents, followed
by a closing ceremony.
The children will come togeth-
er with a facilitator trained by
SPACE to discuss various topics
in relation to the change in their
family unit, such as self-esteem,
anger, family, and trust. The goal
of the support group is to assist
the children in expressing and un-
derstanding their feelings, to de-
velop an acceptance for the family
changes that have occurred, and
to create a sense of belonging.
A parent education group will
meet simultaneously while the
children's group is in session. Par-
ent participation is a requirement
for a family's involvement with
the Rainbow's program. The two
groups, the children's support
group and the parents' education
group will meet from 7-8 p.m., at
Temple Israel, on the following
Thursdays: Feb. 6, 13, 27; March
6, 13, 20; April 10, 17, 24; and May
1.
