Tzedakah Experience at Temple Beth El

Tzedakah Experience, a hands-on event teaching 5th-grade
students in congregational and day schools about tzedakah and the
agencies in the Jewish Community, is scheduled on Sunday,
January 26, 1997, between 9:40-11:45 a.m. at Temple Beth El.

Leading to the event, the students will learn a specially-prepared
"Helping Hands" curriculum and participate in the Penny Harvest,
collecting pennies they will allocate to the agencies. Pennies may be
dropped off at the religious schools or at Temple Beth El, or given
to the 5th-grade students attending congregational and day schools.

This event is sponsored by Temple Beth El, Jewish Federation
Women's Campaign and Education Department, Agency for Jewish
Education and its school services and Jewish Experiences for
Families programs, Jewish Educators Council, The Jewish News.

Albert Rosenberg:
Well-Known Caterer

Albert "Al" Rosenberg, 73, of West Bloom-
field, died Jan. 7. Mr. Rosenberg was born
in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1923. He started Rosen-
berg Kosher Catering with his mother Sylvia
in 1945 on Dexter Blvd.; soon after, his broth-
er Bob joined the business.
Together these three Rosen-
bergs built a kosher catering
business in Detroit. Al catered
many affairs into the third and
fourth generations of families.
Mr. Rosenberg was active at
the Jackson State Peniten-
tiary providing holiday meals
to Jewish inmates with his col-
leagues, Danny Raskin and
Rabbi Sperka. He was a Ma-
son and a 32nd degree
Shriner. He was active in
many organizations among
which were B'nai B'rith, the
City of Hope, Jewish Welfare
Federation, Israel Bonds,
NAACP, the Democratic Par -

ty and labor unions.
In 1951, along with his
mother and brother Bob, he built the Holiday
Manor, a kosher catering facility on Wyoming
Avenue in Detroit. In 1969, the catering com-
pany moved to the former B'nai David in
Southfield. In 1972, Al and his wife moved the
business into the current location at the new
Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills.

DOROTHY ALBERT, 90, of
Southfield, died Jan. 9.
She is survived by her hus-
band, Harry; son and daughter-
in-law, Dr. William and Toby of

Southfield; daughter and son-
in-law, Elaine and Marvin
Janko of New York City; grand-
children, Evan Albert,
Gabrielle and Daniel Altman,
Alan Albert; great-grandson,
Isaac Shlomo Altman.
Contributions may be made
to Akiva Hebrew Day School,
27700 Southfield Road,
Lathrup Village, MI 48076;
Hadassah, 5030 Orchard Lake
Road, West Bloomfield, MI
48323; or to a charity of one's
choice.
Services were held at He-
brew Memorial Chapel. Inter-
ment at Clover Hill Park Ceme-
tery in Birmingham.
Arrangements by Hebrew
Memorial Chapel.

ROSE ALTMAN, 83, of Oak

Park, died Jan. 10. Ms. Altman
was a stockbroker.
She is survived by many lov-
ing relatives and friends. Inter-
ment at Beth AHM Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to
a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements by the Ira Kauf-
man Chapel.

His son Jeffrey joined the business that same
year.
Mr. Rosenberg loved collecting old cook-
books. He also took great joy in spending time
with his granddaughters; he would attend
many of their sports activities.
He took special pleasure in
spending time with his fami-
ly. His generosity and will-
ingness to help others was
well known.
He is survived by his wife,
Sarah; sons and daughter-in-
law, Howard and Susan of
West Bloomfield, Jeffrey of
West Bloomfield; brother and
sister-in-law, Robert B. and
Joyce of Woodland Hills,
Calif.; brother-in-law and sis-
ter-in-law Harry and Vivian
Chaben of Southfield; grand-
children, Laura and Jackie.
Mr. Rosenberg was the
beloved brother of the late
Rosella Cooperman.
Contributions may be
made to Congregational Fund at Adat Shalom
Synagogue, 29901 Middlebelt Road,
Farmington Hills, MI 48334. Services were
held at Hebrew Memorial Chapel. Interment
at Adat Shalom Memorial Park Cemetery in
Livonia. Arrangements by Hebrew Memori-
al Chapel.

DR. LOUIS BERESH, of West

Bloomfield and Israel, died Jan.
9.
Dr. Beresh is survived by his
wife, Vivian; son, Clifford of
Beverly Hills; daughter and
son-in-law, Priscilla and Dr.
Marvin Goldstein of Ohio;
grandchildren, Deborah and
Jeffrey Hersch, Judith Gold-
stein, Robert and Elizabeth
Beresh; brothers and sisters-in-
law, Morris and Mickey of
Farmington Hills, Meyer and
Sylvia of Southfield; sister,
Eleanor Gross of Southfield.
Interment in Israel. This notice
was placed at the request of the
family by the Ira Kaufman
Chapel.

SARA BERKOVIC, 78, of

Southfield, died Jan.9.
She is survived by her hus-
band, Josef; son and daughter-
in-law, Dr. Michael and Sharon
of West Bloomfield; daughter
and son-in-law, Helen and
Howard Barron of Farmington
Hills; grandchildren, Michelle
(David) Kam, Amy Berkovic,
Daniel Peterman, Nicole and
Jacob Barron.
Graveside services were held
at Beth Tefilo Emanuel Ceme-
tery in Ferndale. Contributions
