Tornados Win
Hockey Tourney

Jeremy Konheim scored in over-
time Dec. 31 to lead the U.S.A.
Tornados team to victory in the
Detroit Skating Club Mite Divi-
sion (age 7-9) championship.
The Tornados defeated four
Royal Oak teams to i,vin the tour-
nament, and have won three ad-
ditional games since Jan. 1.
In addition to Konheim of West
Bloomfield, other Tornados are:
Rick Danko, Norman Eichner,
Lauren Kazmierski, Adam Ed-
wards, goalie Ryan Dentamaro,
Trevor Young, Troy Linton, John
Robinson, David Knight, Tony
Anselmi, Adam Duke, Matthew
Costello, Matt McGary, Max Car-
ney and Justin VanHoosen.
The team is coached by Mike
Young of Orchard lake and man-
aged by Al Edwards of Bloomfield
Hills.

The annual Movies for Maccabi
fundraiser for the Detroit Maccabi
Club will be held Sunday, Feb. 2,
at the Showcase Cinemas Auburn
Hills, on Opdyke Road one mile
north of University Drive.
The annual event raises schol-
arship funds for Jewish teen-agers
who need financial assistance to
participate in the Maccabi Games.
The Feb. 2 event will begin at 3
p.m. with a reception, a 50/50 raf-
fle and a light buffet. .
Participants can then attend
any of the movies in the 14-the-
ater complex.
Funds raised will help 20-25
athletes participate on the Detroit
teams expected to attend the re-
gional Maccabi Games in Mil-
waukee the week of Aug. 10 or in
Pittsburgh the week of Aug. 17.
Movies for Maccabi tickets are
$25 for adults and $18 for youths
under age 19. For tickets and in-

B'nai B'rith
B-Ball To Begin

The B'nai B'rith Basketball
League will begin play Sunday
morning, Jan. 19, at Southfield-
Lathrup High School.
The league is still seeking teams
and players.

Max ()lender

4-Year-Old Wins
Giant Slalom

Max Olender, 4-year-old son of
Allen and Amy Olender of West
Bloomfield, won his first ski race
on Dec. 25 at Crystal Mountain in
Thompsonville.
Max placed first in the 4-6 age
group in the Candy Cane Giant
Slalom race on an 1,100-foot
course on Crystal Mountain's in-
termediate hill. His father skied
parallel to him during the race.
Max was the youngest entrant in
the race. It is his second year of
skiing.
