hey came to Temple Beth
El this weekend from far
and wide to attend con-
certs. Not just any concert but one
performed by Peter Yarrow of Pe-
ter, Paul & Mary fame.
And "they" — audience mem-
bers from all walks of life — came
in droves, with over 800 attending
a Saturday night performance and
another 1,000 packing the sanc-
tuary for a children's show on Sun-
day.
The first concert was scheduled
to kick off a program to combat
youth suicide in the Detroit area.
The graduates of "Reach For
Hope," a six-week-long class that
will serve as a part of a pilot pro-

gram to be developed at Temple Beth
El, received certificates marking their
completion of the class. In addition, the
students, members of the temple's high
school, were serenaded by Mr. Yarrow,
who also-sPoke to the crowd about his
own stepbrother's suicide several years
ago.
The second show, an hour and a half
in length, was open to the public as a
part of the Loren B. Fischer Cultural
Series For Children, a program bring-
ing entertainment to local kids three
times a year. Mr. Yarrow was joined by
his daughter, Bethany Yarrow, as well
as the temple's 81-member children's
choir in singing "If I Had A Hammer"
and "Puff The Magic Dragon." ❑
