Keep Pets Party-Safe
Parties are fun for pets and their
owners alike, but present
unique hazards for Fluffy and
Fido. Follow these safety tips to
keep your furry friends safe dur-
ing all the celebrating:
Never allow an animal to play
with plastic or foil wrapping pa-
per — a pet can choke on both.
Keep ribbon and tinsel out of
a pet's reach. Cats are particu-
larly fond of glittery ribbon, but
it can cause them to choke.
Don't offer pets treats from
the table. Chocolate can be poi-
sonous, and an animal can
choke on chicken and turkey
bones. Instead, treat pets to
their own tasty goodies.
The San Diego Humane So-
ciety also recommends having
pets wear identification tags at
all times. Festivities can make
some pets nervous, and they
may try to run out of the house
when visitors come and go.
Planning to give someone a
pet as a gift? Make sure the re-
cipient has enough time and
money to accept the long-term
responsibility of owning a pet.
