WE ORE RLWRYS BUYING Besides the retail bonanza, the Internet is simply becoming the place to be seen. Recently, the Novi Chamber of Commerce joined the growing number of business associations that place their membership directory on- line. "We can't afford to lag be- hind," said Connie Mallett, president of the Novi Chamber. "It's been kind of thrown at us and many of us don't really know the language," she said. "But to keep up with changing times, we have to make sure cur members are visible. We can't afford not to be on the Internet." More than 400 pages about hospitality in the tri-county metro area are updated regular- ly by the Metropolitan Detroit Convention & Visitors Bureau. Since unveiling their new image campaign for Detroit, the bureau has broadened its focus on hyp- ing the new developments, such as new downtown sports stadi- ums and casino gambling. "Part of the overall marketing mix is to promote Detroit as an entertainment center," said Renee Monforton, bureau spokesperson. 'The more options to draw people, the more visitors you'll have." Few other market- ing vehicles provide such an im- mediate and comprehensive presentation as the bureau's Web site, she said. The immediacy of Weight Watchers Web site has helped members remain motivated in between meetings, said Hannan Lis, spokesperson. In addition, the Internet has helped Weight Watchers gain greater access to nontraditional attendees, such as men, students and computer- literate Internet surfers. Nearly three-quarters of users are male. Weight Watchers includes a complete listing of meeting loca- tions, recipes, health tips and lifestyle advice on their web site. They also ask users to share suc- cess stories and for suggestions of what else they'd like to see on the site. While Mr. Lis regards the In- ternet as a timely support for members, it does have its limi- tations. "It doesn't provide for true social interaction," he said. "The Internet is not a replace- ment for being with people." ❑ SILVER COINS ANTIQUE JEWELRY GOLD COINS POCKET WATCHES COIN COLLECTIONS TIFFANY FRANKLIN MINT ROLEX NICHES STERLING SILVER STICK PINS SILVER DOLLARS BROACHES HUMMELS ANTIQUE SILVER SETS SILVER BARS FLATWARE DIAMONDS CANDLESTICKS GEMSTONES PAPER MONEY SCRAP GOLD Pf1TEK PHILLIPE OBJECTS D'ART VACHERON TEA SERVICES BOWLS TRAYS COIN WATCHES CARTIER RINGS VON CLEEF PIAGET POSTCARDS 10-24 KARAT GOLD PENDANTS CHAINS ROYAL DOOLTON All material must be type- written, double-spaced, on 872 x 11 paper and include the name and daytime telephone number of sender. $500 Lease im Renewal Incentive for Current Cadillac Smart Lease .
