Lori Horwitz, A Dedicated Volunteer Lori Horwitz, 33, died Dec. 31 after a six-year battle with brain cancer. In 1994, after undergoing three surgeries, Ms. Horwitz treated her mother Susan to a 10-day vacation in Alaska to celebrate her mother's retirement and her own good health. Throughout her illness, Ms. Horwitz continued her work as a person-to-person volunteer with the Jewish Association for Residential Care. She also con- tinued to volunteer for the Red Cross and the Michigan Jew- ish AIDS Coalition. She was a member of the American Brain Tumor Association. Ms. Horwitz graduated from Southfield High School in 1981 and from Michigan State Uni- versity in 1985. As a student of criminology, she attended school at Cambridge Universi- Lori Horwitz ty in England for one semes- ter.
